Sabayon is the best known example of a distribution using Gentoo. This made it a curious combination of binary and source-based distro as Sabayon didn't supply prebuilt packages except those on the install discs. Updates, security fixes and new software still had to be compiled during installation. This will change with Sabayon 3.5, which will use its own Entropy package manager and have access to repositories of binary packages. We tried the first beta relaase of 3.5, so the repositories were limited, but providing bianry packages also for a distro built from Gentoo makes a lot of sense, otherwise you may as well use Gentoo directly. ...
